5 Things you should know about Charles Frederick Worth

Charles Frederick Worth is also known as the “Father of Haute Couture.”

Worth was the first designer to sew labels into his garments.

Instead of allowing the client to dictate the design (as was the common practice of the time) Worth developed the concept of displaying his dress models four times a year through fashion shows.

His designs followed the current movement that was redefining fashion shapes for women by eliminating ruffles.

Worth dressed many influential women of the time. The likes of Pauline VonMetternich (Austrian Princess), Countess DiCastiglione, Sarah Bernhardt (actress), Nellie Melba (singer), Queen Alexandra, Lady Paget and more.

Thank you for this page. CFW is my ancestor. It's interesting to know that four generations of Worth men followed and managed the Maison Worth until 1956. Wich makes the House las almost 100 years. My granfather was Jean-Charles Creative Director from 1910 till 1935. Before he was trained by his uncle Jean-Phillippe. His brother Jacques was CEO of the company as well. Regards
