Charles Frederick Worth is also known as the “Father of Haute
Couture.”
Worth was the first designer to sew labels into his
garments.
Instead of allowing the client to dictate the design
(as was the common practice of the time) Worth developed the concept of
displaying his dress models four times a year through fashion shows.
His designs followed the current movement that was
redefining fashion shapes for women by eliminating ruffles.
Worth dressed many influential women of the time. The likes of Pauline
VonMetternich (Austrian Princess), Countess DiCastiglione, Sarah Bernhardt
(actress), Nellie Melba (singer), Queen Alexandra, Lady Paget and more.
